 I am working in a company called Asia Social Ventures which helps develop rural enterprises in less developed countries in Asia Pacific region. Currently we are helping 14 entrepreneurs in Philippines; we have set up a management company in Philippines to help manage the fund and operation of the 14 rural enterprises. Before I came to Singapore, I have travelled around Philippines for 2 weeks to do research on the operation of the rural enterprises. It gave me an in-depth understanding of the country and its culture.

I learnt about the difficulties faced by the coconut traders, the industry transformation of the typhoon disaster area, the conflicts between the Christians and the minority Muslims and most importantly, the real lives of the Filipinos. In the Singapore side, I am the only one employee in my company, which I didn’t expect before. But it allows me to gain hands-on experience on different business disciplines like finance, marketing, HR management, international trading, etc etc. Every day after work, I got chances to come across people from all over the world in my hostel. We join to explore Singapore at night and it is again the time for cultural sharing!
